Photos you submit
When you use the identifier, your photo is resized and re-encoded on our server and then sent to our AI classification provider (OpenAI) solely to generate a result. We do not keep the image file after the request completes. The provider processes the image under its own terms.
What we store
- Classification results — the text fields returned for each identification (sex, tail, colour, pattern, name, confidence and notes) are stored for site analytics. These describe the fish, not you.
- Page analytics — page path, referring page, browser user-agent and a timestamp.
- A hashed IP address — we never store your raw IP. It is converted to a one-way SHA-256 hash and used only for rate limiting and rough visitor counts.
Cookies
We use a small cookie to remember your chosen theme (light, dark or ocean), and a session cookie for security tokens. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Your choices
You can clear cookies in your browser at any time. Because IPs are stored only as irreversible hashes and photos are not retained, there is no personal photo archive to request or delete.
